Bleeding
Menstruation, bleeding, or period: Every cycle, a layer of uterine lining is built up in the uterus, serving as a nest for a fertilized egg. If no pregnancy occurs, this uterine lining is shed during menstruation.
Calendar method
The calendar method is one of the earliest methods of natural family planning. Here, ovulation is calculated based on the length of the menstrual cycle.
Cervical Mucus
Cervical mucus is produced in the glands of the cervix. It is influenced by the hormones estrogen and progesterone, which change its appearance and consistency throughout the menstrual cycle.
Cervix
also known as the cervix or neck of the uterus, is the lower part of the uterus that can be felt in the vagina. The cyclical changes of the cervix, like cervical mucus, are another sign for cycle observation.
Conception
Conception or fertilization is the moment when the egg cell and sperm unite, resulting in the creation of a new individual.
Contraception
Contraception refers to the prevention of conception. Essentially, there are three main types of contraception: hormonal, mechanical, or natural contraception.
Core body temperature
Core body temperature is the temperature measured inside the body. Core body temperature rises after ovulation due to the influence of the hormone progesterone.
Corpus Luteum
Corpus luteum, or yellow body, is formed in the ovary after ovulation. Progesterone hormone is produced in the corpus luteum.
Disruptive factors
Disruptive factors or disturbances are circumstances that can affect your core body temperature without ovulation having occurred yet.
Egg cell
The egg cell, or oocyte, is the female gamete carrying the female genetic material.
Estrogen
Estrogen is a sex hormone. It is produced in the maturing egg cell. Estrogen causes changes in cervical mucus. The more estrogen is produced, the clearer and more stretchy the cervical mucus becomes.
Fertilization
Fertilization is the moment when the egg cell and sperm cell fuse together, resulting in the formation of a new individual.
Fertility Window
The fertility window, also known as the fertile window, is the timeframe during the menstrual cycle when conception is possible. This period starts four days before the day of ovulation and ends two days after ovulation.
Follicle
The follicle, also known as the ovarian follicle or egg follicle, is the structure that encloses the developing egg cell within the ovary.
Follicular Phase
The follicular phase is a phase of the menstrual cycle. It begins on the first day of menstruation (day 1 of the cycle) and ends on the day of ovulation.
FSH
Follicle-stimulating hormone. It is controlled by the pituitary gland.
Implantation
Implantation refers to the embedding of the fertilized egg in the uterine lining.
Intermenstrual Bleeding
Intermenstrual Bleeding Intermenstrual bleeding or ovulation bleeding is bleeding associated with ovulation. It is a secondary sign of fertility and can only provide additional clues about the fertile window.
Luteinizing hormone (LH)
Luteinizing hormone (LH) is controlled by the pituitary gland and is responsible for the formation of the corpus luteum.
Luteal phase
"The luteal phase is a phase of the cycle. It begins the day after ovulation and ends on the last day of the cycle."
Menstruation
Menstruation, bleeding or also called period: Every cycle, a mucous membrane layer is built up in the uterus, a nest for the fertilized egg. If there is no pregnancy, this mucous membrane layer is expelled with menstruation.
Menstrual Cycle
Menstrual Cycle The menstrual cycle begins on the first day of menstruation and ends on the day before the next period.
Mid-cycle pain
The mid-cycle pain is a short, cramp-like pain in the left or right lower abdomen, which is triggered by ovulation. It is considered a secondary sign of fertility and can only provide additional clues about the fertile time.
NFP
NFP stands for Natural Family Planning and refers to the umbrella term for all methods of natural family planning.
Ovaries
The ovaries contain immature eggs.
Ovulation
Ovulation is the moment when the mature egg is released from the ovaries into the fallopian tube. The mature egg then travels to the uterus and can be fertilized.
Pearl Index
Pearl Index The Pearl Index assesses the effectiveness of contraceptives. The smaller the Pearl Index, the more effective the contraceptive method.
Period
Period Menstruation, bleeding, or also known as the period: Each cycle, a lining is built up in the uterus, serving as a nest for a fertilized egg. If there is no pregnancy, this lining is shed during menstruation.
PMS
PMS stands for premenstrual syndrome. It refers to the emotional and physical symptoms associated with the menstrual cycle.
Progesterone
Progesterone is a sex hormone. It is produced by the corpus luteum or yellow body. Progesterone causes, among other things, the rise in core body temperature.
Uterus
Uterus or womb is one of the female reproductive organs. In the uterus, the fertilized egg implants after conception and grows here until birth.
Testosterone
Testosterone is a sex hormone that occurs in both men and women, albeit in different concentrations.
Vagina
The vagina, or birth canal, is a muscular tube that connects the uterus to the vulva.
Waking temperature
The waking temperature refers to the temperature measured immediately upon waking up.
